Week 14

This past weekend, there were severe tornadoes that swept through the south east of the United States. Over 200 tornadoes were sighted in south and mid-atlantic states. North Carolina was hit the hardest. There were 43 tornadoes that swept through the state and killed 22 people. The overall death rate has reached 45 people. Should there be a better way to prepare for storms like these?

I definitely think there should be a better way for people to prepare for storms like these. There should be a better way for people to know how soon a tornado is away from them. This disaster should show everyone that we should take more action in protecting people from tornadoes. There should be more places for people to hide. The weather has been so crazy lately, so we should take action now.

  1. I agree. People should have the right to be more aware of storms and tornadoes. There should be more shelters built to protect people who are not at home when a tornado warning has been issued. Disasters do not just affect a small number of people, they affect societies as a whole, so there should be more precautions taken when warning society of severe stroms and tornadoes.

  2. I think that there could be some changes made in the preparation of severe weather. Instead of setting off the sirens when there is a severe thunderstorm, we should only set them off when there is a tornado. People are ignoring the sirens because they think it is only a tornado watch. The state and weather stations can not do anything else to protect everyone. If they are outside or driving when there is a tornado it is their own faults.
